SNL50 - Top 20 Sketches (Season 21 - 30)

These are sketches from Season 21 to 30. Will Ferrell is the standout for this decade. As the years progress, so does the outrageousness.

20. HOT PLATES
EPISODE: S30E13 (02.19.2005)
HOST: Hilary Swank
MUSICAL GUEST: 50 Cent
A love the premise. There is always that warning of the restaurant plates being hot and the temptation to touch them. Horatio Sanz does some stumbling of lines which is unfortunate.

EPISODE: S21E13 (02.17.1996)

Fun premise of relaying the daily news through a soap opera due to low ratings.

Not for the faint of heart. Feeding your children takes on a whole new meaning. Lots of regurgitation here.

16. PACIFIC BRIGADE
EPISODE: S22E07 (11.23.1996)
HOSTS: Phil Hartman
MUSICAL GUEST: Bush
Phil Hartman is a general knows who is not coming back after an important raid. He’s quite calm about it.

15. PROTEST
EPISODE: S28E11 (02.08.2003)
HOST: Matthew McConaughey
MUSICAL GUEST: The Dixie Chicks
I love that the protestors are all protesting for different things. The stupidity of mob mentality on full display.

EPISODE: S22E04 (10.26.1996)

Dana Carvey does his awesome Tom Brokaw impression doing pre-tapes so he can go on vacation. I like the first ‘senseless’ add on.

9. GIGLI
EPISODE: S29E15 (03.13.2004)
HOST: Ben Affleck
MUSICAL GUEST: N.E.R.D.
I like that Ben Affleck is willing to laugh at himself. Frondi doesn’t think Gigli is going to be any good much to Ben’s chagrin. Frondi makes lots of valid points about the holes in the plot and its talkiness.

5. COLONEL ANGUS

Juvenile play-on-words and packed full of innuendo, this Tina Fey penned sketch is a classic.

4. THE COCONUT BANGERS BALL:
IT’S A RAP!
EPISODE: S26E04 (11.04.2000)
HOST: Charlize Theron
MUSICAL GUEST: Paul Simon
Will Ferrell is full of Ron Burgundy-ish pomposity as Robert Goulet. Maybe this one is not online because Ferrell actually says the n-word during his butchered renditions of “The Thong Song” and “Poppa”. Things get even crazier when the big horn sheep appears.

EPISODE: S30E05 (11.13.2004)

1. BEHIND THE MUSIC
EPISODE: S25E16 (04.08.2000)
HOST: Christopher Walken
MUSICAL GUEST: Christina Aguilera
The famous ‘cowbell’ sketch. A tight shirt, breaking cast, and brilliant Walken line delivery make this one of the best sketches ever. There is even a small documentary on the making of it. You’ll need a VPN to watch this American clip though.
