TV Reviews: Friday

Friday night is always a little more awkward because I’m usually busy and have to PVR it all and watch it later. Most of these I watch on my own because my wife is not a fan of the supernatural genre. She does watch Boss with me on the weekends though.

CHUCK

8:00pm
(NBC) Action-Comedy (Final season – thank goodness)
1
Hated Morgan having the intersect. He was better last season.
2
Casey is becoming too soft, especially with a love interest
3
Just want this series to end on a high note. Please

GRIMM

9:00pm
(NBC) Action-Drama (Fairy-tale Fringe)
1 Very well shot. It some great cinematography.
2
Some sharp dark humour thanks to the Angel team
3
Some episodes don’t feel very fairy-tale like

FRINGE

9:00pm
(FOX) Mystery-Drama (X-Files reborn)
1
Glad to have Peter back. He brings the humour.
2 Walter is too much of a downer this season.
3
Like Lincoln, until he breaks up Peter & Olivia

BOSS

9:00pm
(STARZ) Drama (What a jerk of a mayor)
1
Kelsey Grammar is fantastic. It’s his own Breaking Bad.
2
Intriguing storyline with a defined timeline
3
The sex scenes are quite gratuitous

TV Reviews: Thursday

Thursday night has always been Must-See TV for me. NBC always has a great crop of shows (well, except Whitney) and the addition of Big Bang Theory makes for a very funny night. I reluctantly gave up on Person of Interest. There’s not enough of Michael Emerson’s Finch and Jim Caviezel’s Reese seems too much like Jack Bauer with Batman’s growly voice. Each episode usually has one great scene but it’s not enough to keep me watching. Oh well.

THE BIG BANG THEORY

8:00pm
(CBS) Comedy (Nerd filled laughter)
1
Sheldon's still hysterical, he’s a bit less of a jerk this season
2
Just put Leonard and Penny back together already
3
Howard and Raj seemed to be sidelined by Amy. Grrr.

COMMUNITY

8:00pm
(NBC) Comedy (One of the most quick-witted shows on TV)
1
Remedial Chaos Theory episode kicked ass
2
Troy is the man! He’s come a long way from season 1.
3
Wish more people watched so it would be benched in the spring

PARKS & RECREATION

8:30pm
(NBC) Comedy (A much funnier version of The Office)
1
Ron Swanson is my hero. Watch Pawnee Rangers episode.
2
Want Leslie and Ben to be together. Just sayin’.
3
Love it when Ben is frustrated with April and Andy.

THE OFFICE

9:00pm
(NBC) Comedy (Still funny but not as much as before)
1
Don’t mind Andy in charge, but he’s no Michael
2
James Spader’s Ron California is deliciously unreadable
3
Garden Party was fantastic (with Mose parking cars)

TV Reviews: Wednesday

Wednesday night is family comedy night. A night full of laughs followed by some law and horror.

UP ALL NIGHT

8pm
(NBC) Comedy (new parents make for fun comedy situations)
1
Will Arnett plays a great Mr. Mom and doesn’t overdo it like GOB
2
Maya Rudolph has grown on me as the self-centred Ava
3
I’m surprised there aren't more friends featured on this show

SUBURGATORY

8:30pm
(ABC) Comedy (The Mean Girls suburbia is scary but funny)
1
Would have never thought Jeremy Sisto could do comedy
2
Jane Levy (Tessa) & Carly Chaikin (Dalia) are amazing opposites
3
Wish Alan Tudyk was as fun as his role on Firefly, he needs Joss

MODERN FAMILY

9:00pm
(ABC) Comedy (Funniest family on television, hands down)
1
Still sharp and funny with great one-liners throughout
2
Luke is still my favourite character followed by his dad
3
I want to see more of Claire running for office

HAPPY ENDINGS

9:30pm
(ABC) Comedy (Pretty much Friends)
1
Casey Wilson is hysterical, she was never this good on SNL
2
They are at their best when they are all together riffing
3
The shows seems a little too intent on creating new words

HARRY’S LAW

9:00pm
(NBC) Courtroom Drama (Another David E Kelley law show )
1
Don’t like the new digs. Preferred the shoe store.
2
Liked the opening murder story arc, more of the these please.
3
Give more work to Nathan Corddry, he seems pushed out

AMERICAN HORROR STORY

10:00pm
(FX) Horror-Drama (A never-ending haunted house)
1
Some genuine jolts mixed with too much sexuality
2
Too many previous tenants to keep track of
3
I enjoy the creepy opening title sequence

TV Reviews: Tuesday

Tuesday night is my easiest night. I just stopped watching Glee. I can only suspend my disbelief for so long; the school is run by morons, the teachers talk to students about their sex lives, the slurpee machine would be dismantled, why would bullies target an Irish guy even if he was cartoonish, how is Katy Perry’s Last Friday Night appropriate in any school setting. So, I’m done with Glee. Here are the two shows I’m continuing to watch.

NEW GIRL

9pm
(FOX) Comedy (Girl with three boy roommates)
1
Zooey’s Jess is still utterly adorable with her little songs and faces
2
The boys’ responses to Jess get funnier every episode
3
They need to come up with more stuff for the model best friend

PARENTHOOD
10pm (NBC) Drama (The fastest talking family on the planet)
1
Such great stories about family interactions, no matter how hyper
2
Glad the ex-husband in rehab storyline is finally over
3
Love Adam, Crosby, Joel, Max and Sarah. Such fun characters.
