The Primetime Emmys are only a couple of weeks away. The Creative Arts component, however, is tomorrow night. So like I do every year, I’ll tell you who is nominated and who I think should have been nominated (this was done before the nominations were announced but I forgot to post them). I’ll also tell you which five Creative Arts nominees (and categories) I’m rooting for this year. (My predictions for the Primetime Emmys will come closer to the broadcast.)
CREATIVE ARTS EMMYS
OUTSTANDING CINEMATOGRAPHY
Breaking Bad: No Mas | CSI: Family Affair | Flash Forward: No More Good Days | Mad Men: Shut the Door, Have a Seat | The Tudors: Episode 410
Rooting for: No More Good Days
Why: It’s film-quality, not Lost-quality but a great effort. If Breaking Bad chose One Minute or Fly, I would have picked them instead.
OUTSTANDING COMMERCIAL
Absolut: Anthem | Coca-Cola: Coke Finals | Snickers: Game | Audi: Green Car | Nike: Human Chain | Old Spice: The Man Your Man Could Smell Like
One I’m rooting for: Old Spice
Why: Still funny. (I’m on a horse) Snickers football game with Betty White comes second
OUTSTANDING MAIN TITLE DESIGN
Bored To Death | Human Target | Nurse Jackie | The Pacific | Temple Grandin
Rooting for: The Pacific
Why: Very powerful music and images, even better than Band of Brothers. Human Target is pretty cool on a smaller scale.
OUTSTANDING MAIN TITLE THEME MUSIC
Human Target | Justified | Nurse Jackie | Parks& Recreation | Warehouse 13
Rooting for: Parks & Recreation
Why: I love humming along when it plays, it’s so fun and bouncy. Again, Human Target is a very close second, it’s so dramatic sounding.
OUTSTANDING GUEST ACTOR IN A COMEDY
Glee: Mike O'Malley as Burt Hummel | Glee: Neil Patrick Harris as Bryan Ryan | Modern Family: Fred Willard as Frank Dunphy | Nurse Jackie: Eli Wallach as Bernard Zimberg | 30 Rock: Jon Hamm as Dr. Drew Baird | 30 Rock: Will Arnett as Devin Banks
Rooting for: Mike O’Malley
Why: He does such a good job playing Kurt’s understanding dad, it’s amazing to watch. Sorry NPH, maybe next time.
