FULL DISCLOSURE: Love Tarantino films. Pulp
Fiction is one of my favourite films.
STORY STUFF: Not my favourite Tarantino story. There are some slow parts
in the beginning but I did love some of the speeches, the great character names
and the whodunit aspect. After the intermission, I was very curious to how it
was all going to play out.
ACTING STUFF: I expect awesomeness from Jackson, which I got. Russell and
Goggins are stellar as well, great character stuff. I really liked Tim Roth’s
accent and wished he had more to say. Jennifer Jason Leigh is a trooper. And, I’m
not sure if it’s a spoiler, so I’ll just say the young heartthrob does a really
descent job with Tarantino’s script.
ARTISTIC STUFF: I braved the incredibly long lines to watch this film in
the 70mm format which Tarantino preferred. And while the large panoramics were
great for about 5-10 minutes worth of exteriors, the majority of the film in
Minnie’s Haberdashery didn’t need the ultra-wide screen. Great suspenseful
music from Ennio Morricone (The Good, The
Bad and the Ugly). Some of the violent blood spatters were pretty
disturbing, even for a Tarantino film.
VERDICT:
Three and a half stars

You are a fan of Tarantino mostly
