Film: The Fault In Our Stars

GENRE: Drama/Romance
RATING: PG13 for some language and sexuality
RUNTIME: 2 hours and 5 minutes
STARRING: Shailene Woodley (Divergent, The Descendants)
Ansel Elgort (Divergent), Laura Dern (Jurassic Park, Enlightened)
DIRECTOR: Josh Boone  (newcomer)
WRITERS: Scott Neustadter & Michael H Weber (500 Days of Summer)
PLOT: Two teenagers with cancer fall in love and share a journey that takes them to Amsterdam and beyond.

FIVE OBSERVATIONS:
1 Woodley did a great job; she cries well. Elgort is also pretty good. Even though they were siblings in Divergent, their relationship looks authentic in this film. They looked cute together.
2 I appreciated how the parents were portrayed. It’s refreshing to see a loving parental couple who are supportive of their child without being oblivious. Great acting by both Dern and Sam Trammell (True Blood).
3 I enjoyed the scenes in Amsterdam, having been there a couple of years ago. It brought back great memories.
4 I liked the cute way they displayed the texts back and forth.
5 Hazel has an issue with stairs. Why is her room up a staircase? Wouldn’t it be better if her bedroom was on the ground floor? Just sayin’

RECOMMENDATION: Great date movie. She will cry though.
