Film: Edge of Tomorrow

GENRE: Action / Sci-Fi
RATING: PG for action violence and language
RUNTIME: 1 hour and 53 minutes
STARRING: Tom Cruise (Mission Impossibles, Oblivion)
Emily Blunt (Looper), Bill Paxton (Agents of SHIELD, Aliens)
DIRECTOR: Doug Liman  (Bourne Identity, Mr. & Mrs. Smith)
WRITERS: Christopher McQuarrie (Usual Suspects, Valkyrie)
Jez & John-Henry Butterworth (Fair Game, upcoming Get On Up )
PLOT: An officer is caught in a time loop in a war with an alien race. Explosions and repetitions ensue.

FIVE OBSERVATIONS:
1 I don’t know how to explain it but Tom Cruise knows how to pick movies. With only a couple of misfires, he is always a treat to watch. You can tell that he loves what he does.
2 I thought the beach scene (starts off very Saving Private Ryan-ish) was going to get tired really fast with its Groundhog Day repetitiveness but thankfully Cruise’s Cage character and the film moves on from there.
3 The aliens reminded me of a cross between Starship Troopers and the Sentinels from Matrix Revolutions. Made me squirm a little.
4 This film had some great funny moments amongst the action. Love the breathers.
5 I lost count of how many times the day resets. Don’t even try.

RECOMMENDATION: Exciting big screen fun.
