Film: Fall Movie Preview
Now that the popcorn –filled ‘blockbuster’ summer is over, it’s time to look at the more prestigious films that will be vying for Oscars and such. I love this time of year for movies. Here are fifteen that I’m definitely looking out for (mostly because of the people involved).
Contagion (Sept 9): Soderbergh (Traffic, Ocean’s 11) directs a large cast thriller that includes Matt Damon and Kate Winslet.
Moneyball (Sept 23): Sorkin (Social Network) writes a Brad Pitt baseball movie that’s based on a true story and deals more with management.
50/50 (Sept 30): Seth Rogen (Knocked Up) & Joseph Gordon Levitt (500 Days of Summer) humorously deal with cancer.
The Ides of March (Oct 7): Clooney (Good Night & Good Luck) writes, directs, and stars along with Ryan Gosling (Crazy Stupid Love). Poster even looks cool.
In Time (Oct 28): Andrew Niccol (Gattica) directs Justin Timberlake and a young cast in this cool futuristic thriller. Cillian Murphy (Batman Begins, 28 Days Later) also stars.
J. Edgar (Nov 9): Eastwood (Million Dollar Baby) directs DiCaprio (The Departed) in a biopic that’s sure to rack up some awards.
The Decendants (Nov 23): Clooney in an Alexander Payne (Election, About Schmidt) film about infidelity.
The Muppets (Nov 23): Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother) stars and helped write this film that will surely revive the popularity of the Muppets.
Young Adult (Dec 9): Director Jason Reitman & writer Diablo Cody (Juno) are together again this time with Charlize Theron (Monster) trying to regain her youth.
Carnage (Dec 16): A great play directed by Roman Polanski (The Pianist) with three Oscar winners and a multiple nominee.
Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows (Dec 16): Robert Downey Jr. returns and this time takes on Moriarty.
Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol (Dec 21): Brad Bird (Incredibles) directs Tom Cruise and Jeremy Renner in this latest instalment.
Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Dec 21): Fincher (Social Network) directs Daniel Craig in this gritty tale based on the popular novel series.
The Adventures of Tintin (Dec 23): Steven Spielberg & Peter Jackson (LOTR) revive one of my childhood comics.
Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close (Dec 25): Tom Hanks & Sandra Bullock together in a film. As long as it’s not like Larry Crowne, we’ll be fine.
Other films that sparked my interest: The Big Year (Oct 14), Anonymous (Oct 28), The Rum Diary (Oct 28), Tower Heist (Nov 4), A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas (Nov 4), The Artist (Nov 23), The Iron Lady (Dec 16), and We Bought a Zoo (Dec 23)
