Film: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader
GENRE: Adventure/Fantasy
RATING: PG for fantasy action & frightening images
RUNTIME: 1hour and 53 minutes
STARRING: Georgie Henley (Narnia 1 &2)
Skandar Keynes (Narnia 1 & 2), Will Poulter (Son of Rambow)
DIRECTOR: Michael Apted (7Up Series, Amazing Grace)
WRITERS: Michael Petroni (Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys) Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (Narnia 1 & 2)
PLOT: Cousin Eustace joins Lucy & Edmund on another Narnia adventure on the open seas where they encounter dragons, warriors and the edge of the world.
FIVE OBSERVATIONS:
1 Eustace is a great addition to the story this time around. He’s like a substitute Edmund from the first film. A little too pouty at times but brought some nice energy to the film.
2 It’s nice to see the cast return for the third installment with the exception of Simon Pegg filling in for Eddie Izzard as the voice of Reepicheep. Enjoyed seeing the White Witch return even though she wasn’t in the original text.
3 The story is interesting enough. I don’t remember much from the book except that the dragon lasts a lot longer. Probably because it looked cool.
4 The leviathan at the end was actually quite scary looking. It probably frightened some of the kids in the theatre.
5 The end involves deciding to enter Aslan’s land. Seems like suicide to me. Weird
RECOMMENDATION: Wait for the DVD if you’ve seen/read the series.
