GENRE: Action/Adventure
RATING: PG-13 for combat violence and some language
RUNTIME: 1 hour and 50 minutes
STARRING: Dwayne Johnson (The Rundown, Scorpion King)
Jonathan Pryce (Pirates of the Caribbean); Ray Stevenson (Thor)
DIRECTOR: Jon M. Chu (Step Up 2, Step Up 3D)
WRITERS: Rhett Reese & Paul Wernick (Zombieland)
PLOT: With Zartan still posing as the president, the GI Joes are nearly decimated, but a select few escape and try to expose the truth.
FIVE OBSERVATIONS:
1 What a dumb plot. They should have just taken an existing GI Joe cartoon story and made it live action.
2 I liked The Rock as Roadblock. I enjoyed his chemistry with Channing Tatum’s Duke. Thankfully they didn’t keep Roadblocks trademark rhyming comments. I also enjoyed watching Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights) as Lady Jaye. I didn’t like DJ Cotrona as Flint. I always saw Flint as way more of a leader. This guy wasn’t very charismatic. Also Bruce Willis needed more screen time.
3 The mountain side martial arts fight was very well done. Of course, this could also be seen in the trailer for the movie.
4 Did you see the director’s previous credits? He also did Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. Why is this guy helming a big budget action film?
5 I was sad that Joseph Gordon Levitt (Looper) did not reprise his role as Cobra Commander. I guess he’s way to respectable to do schlock like this.
RECOMMENDATION: DVD for action/TBS for story
