PLOT: A relationship between an upcoming politician and a ballerina is tested by a group of people who control fate.
FIVE OBSERVATIONS:
1 This film starts off strong, especially in the opening montage as we see Damon’s David Norris on his short political run. It’s fun seeing Damon’s character on all sorts of talk shows and such.
2 Matt Damon does a great job with his role. He has the wit and swagger of a politician and the heart and mushiness of a romantic. His running however looked very funny in this film. I don’t remember him looking that weird in the Bourne series.
3 I like seeing John Slattery out of his Mad Men role. This role is similar in style but has more running. Fun stuff.
4 While the story has a great beginning and a fast paced, albeit confusing, conclusion, the middle part dragged a little too much. The romance got a little too cliché. I am very tired of the woman waking up after a night of passion, seeing the bed empty and assuming he has left her but really all he did was go out and buy her some coffee and bring it to her in bed. Leave a note moron; you know she’s going to wake up when you’re gone and assume you’re an asshole. And this concludes my rant.
5 The concept of a group of people controlling the fate of others is intriguing and engaging but the other characters accept the premise a little too easily. Wouldn’t you want a little more explanation and maybe see some more pages from those books? I’m just saying.
RECOMMENDATION: Wait for the DVD
